H. E Atumanni Dainkeh and Rachid Talbi El Alami Discuss Strengthening Ties between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Morocco

In the spirit of promoting and advancing the country’s interest, His Excellency Atumanni Dainkeh, Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Morocco was received in audience by Honourable Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the Kingdom of Morocco’s House of Representatives in Rabat, on 29th December, 2021.   The purpose of the visit was to foster the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment in building constructive, complementary and dynamic relations between the two friendly countries and more specifically to follow-up on some of the issues and areas Ambassador Dainkeh identified as deserving bilateral cooperation during his scoping exercise within few months of his arrival to the Kingdom.

Ambassador was deeply honoured by the warm and hospitable reception accorded him by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the opportunity to share his vision of this new stage in Sierra Leone’s relations with the kingdom of Morocco. The visit was a landmark in the process of deepening cooperation and economic and political relations that has been unfolding over the recent years. He acknowledged the Speaker’s stalwart leadership in the fight to build a society of rights, equality and justice, and a living expression of the development aspirations of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The visit focused on the need to expeditiously look into the cooperation agreement and ensure the people share the fruits of its development. In other words, to respond rapidly to the commitments agreed upon in the Roadmap of Cooperation Agreement signed by Professor David J. Francis, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone with his Moroccan counterpart in August 2021 in the Kingdom of Morocco. Ambassador Dainkeh also took the opportunity to emphasize Sierra Leone’s bid for a Non-Permanent Seat at the United Nations Security Council 2024-2025 and thanked the Moroccan Government for their support in that regard.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami in his remarks welcomed Mr. Atumanni Dainkeh, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to Rabat. He acknowledged the quality bilateral relations that exist between Morocco and Sierra Leone at different levels, which are based on mutual respect of national sovereignty and defense of common vital interests. He expressed special interest in the area of Visa Exemption for both Sierra Leone nationals and nationals of the Kingdom of Morocco among other important areas in the roadmap of cooperation. He further emphasized the need to foster and promote the existing cordial bilateral parliamentary links through a friendship group and the exchange of visits and fostering multilateral parliamentary relations through regional and international parliamentary fora, especially the Conference of Africa-Latin America Parliamentary Unions scheduled for February 2022 in Panama.

His Excellency the Ambassador registered his appreciation and gratitude for the kind hospitality and looking forward to build an even closer and mutually beneficial relationship between Sierra Leone and Morocco in the coming years.
